In this blogpost we are going to the island of Kos in Greece and we will be looking at the best places to eat and drink in Kos Town.
kos town
Kos Town, the vibrant capital of the Greek island of Kos, exudes a captivating blend of history and contemporary charm. Steeped in a rich heritage, the town showcases a remarkable array of archaeological wonders, such as the ancient Agora and the Castle of the Knights. Wandering through its narrow streets, visitors are greeted by a delightful mix of Greek and Ottoman architecture, complemented by lively squares and bustling markets. The picturesque harbor promenade offers panoramic views and a plethora of waterfront cafes and restaurants. With its cosmopolitan atmosphere, cultural attractions, and lively nightlife, Kos Town is a true gem of the Aegean.
1. Sitar Cocktail Bar
Sitar Cocktail Bar is located near the port of Kos. It is an ideal place if you want to enjoy some delicious cocktails and good music. Sitar offers a modern menu with their own special creations, but you can also get all the classics. The drinks are made with fresh ingredients such as herbs, spices and fresh fruits. We ordered their own version of Paloma, using Mastic liqueur and also a classic Palamo to compare. The cocktails were very well presented and tasted great.
There is a big outdoor seating area but on a windy day you can also checkout their hip indoor bar.
2. Ali Restaurant (O Ali)
Restaurant Ali is a family business and originally opened in 1986 in Platani, outside the city-center. The restaurant moved to it’s current location on the corner of Artemisias and Thessalou in 2012.
Their aim is to provide high quality food with the most beautiful and purest ingredients to satisfy the most demanding customers. The food is a mix of Greek and Turkish cuisine and they really cook with their hearts.
I got the change to meet the chefs and personal in the kitchen during a busy night in June. Several generations of the family work here and the atmosphere is truly nice and friendly.
We ordered a Greek salad, some beautifully cooked mushrooms, a baked cheese dish with tomatoes and I couldn’t resist to try their charcoal grilled chicken souvlaki. Everything tasted amazing and I would highly recommend this place.
3. Umbra Cafe & Cocktail Bar
Our last place to eat and drink is Kos Town is Umbra Cocktail Bar is an elegant and modern cocktail bar where focus on quality and presentation is high. It’s located just a 5 minute walk from the busy area of Kos Port in a slightly less touristic area.
We found a great vibe sitting outside sipping on cocktails in the warm Mediterranean night.
Here a some of their drinks.
