Easiest Ways – Venice Airport to Venice

In this blog-post I will show you the easiest ways to get from the Venice Marco Polo Airport to the city centre of Venice. I will show you three different options. There are many ways to travel for sure, but these are according to me the three easiest and best ways. In the end of the blogpost I will show you a comparison table for a good overview.

The historic city of Venice is located only 7 km from the airport. Venice is a city unlike any other, built on a network of canals instead of roads. Rising from a lagoon, its beauty lies in narrow alleys, arched bridges, and shimmering waterways. At its heart is St Mark’s Square, surrounded by historic architecture and lively cafés. Gondolas glide past centuries-old palaces, echoing the city’s rich past as a powerful maritime republic. From the grandeur of Doge’s Palace to the charm of hidden corners, Venice feels timeless. Despite modern crowds, it remains a place of romance, mystery, and quiet moments reflected in the water.

1. Taxi

The first option is obvious and it is to take a taxi or Uber. It’s the most convenient way to get to Venice, but remember that in Venice city there are no cars allowed. The taxi rank is located just outside the airport terminal, so it’s quick and easy to reach. If you stay in a hotel in the city of Venice you will have to make the last bit of your trip by foot or by a taxi boat. The price is fixed at 40 EUR (2026).

If you have the budget, there are also private water taxis that you can take from the ferry terminal at the airport. They will take you directly to your accommodation or place of choice. Prices start around 150 EUR up to 250 EUR.

2. Transfer Bus

The airport transfer bus from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Venice is actually the simplest and most practical way to get into the city, especially if you don’t care about arriving by boat. They also depart just outside the airport terminal, so it’s quick and easy to reach the busses. It will get you to Piazzale Roma and from there you can walk or take a water bus. It’s the same drop off point as for the taxis, as cars are not allowed in the historic city of Venice.

3. Alilaguna Water Bus

The Alilaguna water bus is basically Venice’s airport boat shuttle – a public transport service that takes you directly from Venice Marco Polo Airport into the lagoon and the historic city by water. It’s the most Venice way to arrive to the city and is great for first time visitors. Be ready for a 10 – 15 minutes walk from the airport terminal to the ferry terminal. The waterbus is also pretty slow, so it’s definitely not the fastest option but it’s very scenic as you get closer to the historic city of Venice!

There are three different lines, called Blue, Orange and Red line. You can see the stops below.
