In this blog-post I will show you the easiest ways to get from the Manchester Airport to the city centre. I will show you two different options. There are many ways to travel for sure, but these are according to me the two easiest and best ways. In the end of the blogpost I will show you a comparison table which also includes some more options.
Manchester Airport is one of the UK’s busiest hubs, serving both budget and full-service airlines. On the low-cost side, it is heavily used by easyJet, Ryanair, and Jet2, which connect Manchester with dozens of European holiday destinations. Full-service international carriers also have a strong presence. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic provide long-haul and domestic connections, while North American airlines such as Delta, United, and Air Canada fly to major US and Canadian cities.
From the Middle East and Asia, carriers like Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines operate regular flights, linking Manchester with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and onward to Asia. European flag carriers including KLM, Air France, Lufthansa, Swiss, Finnair, Iberia, and Turkish Airlines ensure strong connectivity with their global hubs.
Closer to home, regional operators such as Loganair and Aurigny run services within the UK and nearby islands. In recent years, Manchester has expanded its reach further into Asia, with Chinese airlines flying to Beijing and Shanghai, and India’s IndiGo launching flights to Mumbai. Aer Lingus UK has also made Manchester a base for new long-haul services to destinations like New York and Orlando.
Manchester Airport has three terminals. You can see which airlines is using which terminal below.

1st option – Taxi

Taxi is the most convenient option and it will take you all the way to your accommodation. It’s also the more pricey option, but if you are travelling as a group of 3-4 people it’s definitely worth it. There might be a lot of traffic around Manchester though, so keep that in mind if you are travelling during busy hours.
- Available 24/7 outside arrivals at each terminal.
- Journey: 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic.
- Fare: typically £27–35.
2nd option – train

Taking the train is the fastest and cheapest way to get to Manchester city centre. That is of course if the train leaves and arrives on time. It’s also quite a walk from the terminals to the train station, so keep that in mind. The walk is covered, so you don’t have to worry about rain.
The train from Manchester Airport runs mainly into Manchester Piccadilly Station (the city’s main station).
Along the way, depending on the service, trains may also stop at:
- Manchester Oxford Road (close to Deansgate and the university area)
- Manchester Deansgate (near Castlefield and Spinningfields)
- Manchester Victoria (some services continue here, useful for the northern part of the city)
Most services terminate at Manchester Piccadilly, but some carry on further across the North (e.g. to Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Preston).
- Fastest and cheapest public transport option.
- Trains run about every 10 minutes, 7 days a week.
- Journey: 15–20 minutes to Manchester Piccadilly station.
- Fare: around £3–6.
- The station is connected to all terminals by the Skylink walkway.

more options
There are many more options, like tram, bus and private transfer. It might be worth to check out these options if there is a problem on the railway or strike etc.
