Cable cars in Barcelona

Did you know that Barcelona has two different cable cars? In this blog post, we’ll take a look at both of them and find out how they are different.

Teleferico del Puerto

Teleferico del Puerto – cable car

The cable car connecting the port with Miramar, located on the slopes of Montjuïc, was designed in 1926 by Carles Buigas. Collaborating with Buigas were Ramon Calzado and Josep M. Roda. Their goal was to establish a connection between the 1929 exhibition and its maritime section.

Tickets

There are only two cabins and they have each a capacity of 19 people. During busy times there can therefore be quite some queues. Keep this in mind when booking your tickets. You can book tickets online or directly at the stations of Barceloneta and Mirador – Montjuic.

Buy online at: https://www.telefericodebarcelona.com/en/telefericodebarcelonaen/

Pricing

A one-way ticket is 12.50 euro and a return ticket is 20.00 euro. One-way tickets are only available from the top-station on the mountain. You cannot buy a one-way ticket from Barceloneta to go to Montjuïc, only return tickets are available in this direction. I’m not sure why, but I guess that it’s more popular to go from the beach-area to Montjuïc then the other way around.

Teleferic de Montjuic – cable car

The Montjuïc cable car runs between the Funicular station and the top of Montjuïc mountain, taking visitors on a 750-metre-long trip high above the city. Get a bird’s eye view of Barcelona as you climb to Montjuïc Castle. The modern cable cars will give you the chance to spot emblematic landmarks, such as La Sagrada Família and the Agbar Tower, along with great views of the port.

What to see on Montjuic

On Montjuïc mountain you can enjoy museums like the Fundació Joan Miró, the Archaeology Museum and the MNAC, historic sites like the emblematic Olympic Ring, parks and gardens and even a castle!

Tickets are available online and at the stations. Currently they are running a promotion on their website which makes it cheaper to buy your tickets online.
